Scripts, Tutorials & More
Many of our packages include scripts, and here we've collected a bunch of them. When I have time, I will be adding more scripts and video tutorials explaining how I'm accomplishing certain tasks. The target audience is beginner Unity users. My scripts are in Javascript (Unityscript), as I don't currently know C# enough, but the logic will hold. The Basics #1 Smooth Look At Put this script on a character, assign a target, and the characer will smoothly look at that target at all times.
The Basics #2 Setup an Animator Controller Quickly setup an Animator Controller for your character, including transitions & triggers.
The Basics #3 Hacking Animations, Animation Events & Spawning Particles Hack together new animations using already existing ones, use Animation Events to call a function on your script to spawn a particle (magic spell).
1st Person RPG Time Control Simple scripts to control in-game time (helpful for Day/Night systems), with the ability to pause the recording of time with menus & buttons.
1st Person RPG Player Movement Simple Character Controller script for moving our player around using the mouse and keyboard. We also add a Game Controller object, with the ability to pause the game.
1st Person RPG Mobile Joysticks We add in dual mobile joysticks with a ton of options that make for a quite powerful & natural control system.
1st Person RPG Saving & Loading 1 We start our Saving & Loading scripts with a simple method that saves the timer and some other variables, and loads it on Start() and at the push of a button.
1st Person RPG Saving & Loading 2 Saving & Loading continues w/ a menu scene that lets you start a new game or load a previously created game. Game can be saved and then, if loaded, started from the same spot.
1st Person RPG Saving & Loading 3 This is a small but important update, where I start using Nested Clases (not sure if that's the right term), to save information in one file. It includea "Character Creation" test scene, a proof of concept. Great step forward.
1st Person RPG Character Creation Scene This is a pretty advanced character creation scene, allowing for the player to customize the Race, Gender, Stats, Class & Skills of all 4 characters in a clean and efficient manner. It uses classes heavily, and should be useful to people who aren't quite sure how to do this yet.
1st Person RPG Saving & Loading 4 This adds two very cool features to the Save & Load process. First, entrances! These trigger objects move the player from one scene to another. Second, Screenshots! Every time the game is saved, a screenshot of the game view is taken, and displayed on the preview panel when loading saved games.
1st Person RPG Saving & Loading 4 We set the stage for our enemies with methods to load the initial enemies into our data that gets saved, and then spawning them when we visit the level again.
1st Person RPG Enemy & Projectiles, Save & Load Now we can save & load the position & rotation of enemies, as well as the position & rotation of particles. Pausing works as well for each.
1st Person RPG Player Turn Based Actions A system for deciding which character (enemy or player) gets to go next. Enemies are automated, while players wait for user input before continuing.
1st Person RPG Click/Touch to Attack The ability to click or touch an enemy to attack them, instead of using the buttons. In the future this will help players be strategic during battles.
1st Person RPG Player Portraits We add player portraits to the boxes on the bottom of the screen, and start the setup for an inventory panel that also shows the players in real time.
1st Person RPG Items & Inventory #1 The basic setup for storing all of our Items in the game, as well as the inventory for each player.
1st Person RPG Items & Inventory #2 A big update with the inventory grid as well as the ability to manage inventory, transfer items & equip them.
